This can still happen whether you have been playing for a year or 50 years. We see many guitarists frustrated that they can't take their playing to the next level and improve as much as they would like. Story Of Our Guitar Lives
Learning the guitar is definitely a series of steps. From being a complete beginner to learning your first song, first scale, first performance, first solo. When going through all this to learn to play the guitar, many of us face a lot of challenges. If you are a beginner you can save yourself a lot of time and money by avoiding these these common challenges.
The most common challenge that comes is the internet. It is a whirlwind of information that anyone can get lost and distracted in. Whether it is buying another guitar book, reading another guitar article, finding another site with "Beginners Easy Chords", or "The Essential Guide to Learning Barre Chords". On top of all of this, there is YouTube with floods of content! People get overwhelmed by all the information. It's confusing to know what to do next.
When people learn by themselves, it is difficult to know if what they are doing is correct. They end up wasting time learning the wrong techniques. Often it's confusing to know what they should be working on next and keep wondering how long does it take to actually get results on the guitar.
So then what do most people do, they turn to their trusted friend who plays the guitar. Yes, he must know the answers! He has been playing for years and can tell me what to do. I'm sure he won't mind taking some time out of his life every week to teach me a few things. Then they find their friend too busy or ends up confusing us even further. They get even more frustrated! They wonder how they are ever going to solve this problem of fingers hurting and not feeling right when they play.
If you are not a beginner, I'm sure you know what I'm talking about. Even if you have a teacher, it's so tempting to see what someone else is doing on YouTube, to get distracted. After all, we want to get motivated and inspired by watching other guitarist who are better than we are! We want to think about how great we will be when we play a band with our friends and how amazing we will sound together, all improvising, jamming, playing in time.
It became time for us to face the facts. We better consult someone who does this as a profession. A guitarist who knows HOW to teach. I want someone who actually knows what they are doing and how to teach others to do it. To tell me exactly what to do next. I want them to actually make me do it as well! Make sure I practise and don't get distracted. Now that I've made my decision, let's take the next step.
